Courses with Claudia Prati, Visiting Guest Instructor
We are excited to be hosting Claudia Prati again who is visiting and teach you a few of her amazing "Materika" 2019 collections.
Claudia Prati began her activity as a sugar artist in 2010 just when the trend of cake design was starting in Italy.
In 2013 Claudia was contacted by the national television (RAI) and joined the team of tutors on the program “Detto Fatto,” broadcast on RAI 2, where she recorded 18 episodes. Meanwhile, Claudia pursued the dream of writing a book about royal icing, as there was nothing similar in Italy. In 2014, she published her first book “Manuale della ghiaccia reale” published by Chiriotti. The book was awarded “Best 2015 Book” during the Cake Design Italian Festival Milan. During the same event in 2016, Claudia was awarded the “Best Royal Icing Artist” prize.
In 2015 she entered the “Cake International” competition in Birmingham, England and won the first gold of the “International” category with a Venice-inspired cake made with royal icing and modeling. She won a gold in the “Christmas” category the following year with a blue-and-white royal-icing lace cake called “Silent Night”. In 2017, Claudia was the finalist at the cake masters awards in the “Royal icing” category. Claudia has also served as a judge in many Italian cake decorating competitions, including “Glamour Italian Cakes” at the Sigep Rimini Trade Show.
In 2017, by experimenting with the palette knife, Claudia created “Materika,” a personal technique that involves the use of brush painting, palette knife painting and royal icing. This kind of decoration is a personal reinterpretation of the classic oil or acrylic painting reproposed in a "sweet" key using edible media such as royal icing buttercream and food colouring. Materika matches perfectly with other kinds of decorations like gumpaste flowers, wafer paper and classical piping.
